DESCRIPTION
AACE are contracted to provide safety and environmental support to AmeyBriggs on the MOD MITER project. The project provides a capability for a range of construction, lifting, and mechanical handling requirements.
SCOPE
The project includes 28 functionally similar groups of equipment, encompassing over 4,000 pieces of bespoke Military Off The Shelf (MOTS) and Civil Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment. AACE is developing robust Environmental Cases for all 28 groups of MITER equipment, to meet MOD policy requirements, including Defence Standard 00-051, the MOD Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS) and the DE&S Land Domain Environmental Strategy.
The development of the bespoke Environmental Cases has been supported by stakeholder engagement, including contributions from MITER equipment users, maintainers, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), at equipment specific Environmental Impact Screening and Scoping (EISS) workshops.
The project also provides an estimate for the total amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions that will be released by each MITER equipment group, per year using non-road/ off-road construction equipment emission conversion factors developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), DEFRA and the US EPA), and the predicted annual losses of equipment air-conditioning F-gas.
OUTPUT DELIVERED
• Environmental Management Plan
• Stakeholder Register
• Legislation and Compliance Register (including compliance arguments and statements)
• Environmental Aspect, Impact & Risk Register
• Environmental Objectives & Targets Register
• Environmental Case Report (including Best Practicable Environmental Options (BPEO) statements).
By delivering Environmental Cases for all MITER equipment, AACE has enabled the project to demonstrate that the equipment is BPEO and that the residual impacts and potential risks are understood and managed, in compliance with MOD policy, regulation and guidance.
By extracting raw monthly usage and mileage data, AACE is developing an accurate Scope 1 emissions baseline (T-CO2e) for the MITER fleet, from which informed emission reduction targets can be considered
